Laura Falzon premiered composer Gio Janiashvili‘s The Seduction of Europa, a 45 minute flute and electronics piece, at The Tank in New York on Sept 26 2018.
Composer Gio Janiashvili‘s flute and electronics work, written for Laura Falzon, borrows its title from the Greek myth “The Seduction of Europa.” Nevertheless, the work is not intended to be programmatic.
The flute acts like a magical figure, enchanting the listener into a fantasy world of acoustical images. This imaginary, pictorial and quasi-childish landscape, with both its dark and light sides, regales listeners with a sense of illusion, inviting them to explore the concealed unconscious. The whole work is a tale, which cannot be told through words, but can only be experienced like words, but can only be experienced like a dream – a dream, which is only tangible through the art of music.
Gio Janiashvili, is a composer from Tbilisi Georgia based in New York City.
